"I whipped through this novel. Absolutely loved the well researched historical elements.
The characters were well drawn and believable. It's like Lara Croft meets Indiana Jones and Babylon Rising."5 star Amazon review

"Anyone who enjoys Dan Brown will want to read this book ( and the rest of the ARKANE series ). I know there are many books appearing in this genre but J.F. Penn REALLY DOES stand out from the crowd. This book is easy to read, it grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go until the very last page.5 star Amazon review
In the ARKANE thriller series ...
ARKANE agents Morgan Sierra and Jake Timber race against time to solve religious and supernatural mysteries around the world.
They're joined by other members of the ARKANE team as they search for clues and battle foes both human and supernatural along the way.
Described by fans as "Dan Brown meets Lara Croft," and perfect for fans of James Rollins or Steve Berry.
From my Amazon 5* review in 2020:
This is my first exposure to Ms. Penn’s writing, and I was pleasantly surprised. I read a variety of genres: mystery thrillers, space opera, some fantasy, post-apocalyptic stories. I read for escape and entertainment, and I’m not too concerned if things are contrived or perhaps violate the laws of physics, like magic, riding dragons, or space travel. I found this to be an easy read: the story flowed smoothly, the characters had some depth and the scenes were portrayed vividly. I got into the story fairly quickly and stayed interested throughout. I enjoyed the blend of history, myth, science and creative license that perhaps made it plausible and entertaining. I recommend this book and want to read more in this series.
Fun and fast-paced. The quest is to recover all twelve of stones shaped during Pentecost.
Because…yeah, they can do some hidden magic things when put back together.
Really like the stories and writing.
As always JF Penn's books never fail to deliver. Good plots, great complex characters who stay true throughout all the books.
Well worth a read - highly recommended
Morgan is a complex character and I immediately bonded with her – perhaps because we’re both suspicious about coincidences and on guard for danger lurking around every corner. She’s a kick-ass heroine (she used to be in the Israeli military and she’s an Oxford psychologist).
The way the different locations were described made me feel like I’m there – it’s the small details that enrich the world the author created. I like how much research went into finding the essence of each locale.
I enjoyed the thriller aspect of this novel, but it is this part – the myths, legends, unseen things – that truly drew me into the story. I like the mix of modern technology and ancient artefacts that come together to create chaos and solve problems. There’s loads to learn about the early Church, feuding sects and secret societies.
This is a book that entertains as well as educates. It has a few exciting twists and turns.
