"Be sure you have time to finish since you won’t want to stop once you start ... a thrilling story of discovery, recovery and imminent danger ... Well worth the read."
I loved this story so much that I read it as an ebook and then listened to the audiobook. As a listener to the Creative Penn podcast, the author's voice is familiar to me and it felt like a friend telling me a story. Jo has blended archaeology with cutting-edge AI and folklore to create a thrilling read - or listen - with an ending that I didn't see coming. Fantastic! I also enjoyed the author's note about her inspiration for the story - since reading Jo's books, it's something I look out for in others', too, as I like to be able to place the story in its context.

A Story of Ancient Blood and Salt Magic
How can you not enjoy a story that includes lines like 'a nexus empowered by ancient blood and salt magic.' Seahenge is a blend of J.F. Penn's characteristic historical research enriched and twisted with myth and the supernatural. I thoroughly enjoyed this short story about the removal of Seahenge for preservation, which unleashes unforseen powers and leads to devastating consequences. I also enjoyed the inclusion of the Author's Note about the inspiration and facts about Seahenge (which I had never heard of) and the ancient drainage of the Fens. Although it is fiction, the idea of 'what was drowned will be drowned again' is thought provoking in the context of human impact on the planet, climate change and how the planet will redress the damage.
I listened to the ARC audiobook version of Seahenge and this is my honest review.

A compelling read.
I listened to the audiobook.
An interesting premise. I liked how technology was used to decipher what the timber circle had written over it. All the things that hid in the water along with what the AI computer model showed made me want to know more about this world. An atmospheric read with things unearthed by archeologists on-site and in the lab that keeps you wondering long after the story ends.
*I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion.
