The power to raise the dead… will mean the end of all life.

Jake Timber, agent of ARKANE — the secret organization charged with protecting the world from supernatural threat — is flying solo.

His usual partner, Morgan Sierra, is on leave, still reeling from a recent brush with death. But evil takes no vacations, so when the corpse of a monk is discovered beneath a New Orleans cemetery — cruelly murdered, his body broken and his flesh carved with occult Voodoo markings — Jake knows it’s bad news.

But even he’s not ready for the truth: someone is looking for the Hand of Ezekiel.

Imbued with the power to raise the dead, the Hand was broken into five pieces, but now someone has found it… or something like it, because someone is killing people in New Orleans, then raising them from the dead as monsters.

In over his head, Jake needs Morgan’s help if he hopes to beat back this evil. But even if she comes back to help, will it be enough? The Hand of Ezekiel is being assembled. The dead are rising from the grave.

And the power to stop it all can only be found in the land of the dead… in the Valley of Dry Bones.

"Penn's books are always incredibly readable and exciting, but it's the extras that she adds which make these books so special. The vast amount of research she does before each book is obvious, but it is the way that she seamlessly blends the facts that she ferrets out with her fictional work that makes the books so different.
Her portrayal of the characters is also masterful."

"This author just gets better and better! Valley of Dry Bones is impossible to put down ...
The characters are engaging, the situations are page-turners, and the descriptions of the locations are true to life ... I've lived in New Orleans (and suburbs) all my life, and I think this is one of the best fictional representations of my city."

Yet another great story from a fantastic archaeological story writer. I couldn’t put it down, I was engrossed throughout right up to the ending I didn’t see coming. Roll on the next one."

"Penn ... always researches her books really well. I can absolutely confirm this with regard to San Francisco. I felt I was back there with the sounds, the smells, the shops, and the people ...
An exhausting ARKANE adventure that will have you zooming through the pages ... Not only a great story, but a lesson in the history of New Orleans and Bayou voodoo, and the connection with Catholicism. Loved it."

In the ARKANE thriller series ...

ARKANE agents Morgan Sierra and Jake Timber race against time to solve religious and supernatural mysteries around the world.

They're joined by other members of the ARKANE team as they search for clues and battle foes both human and supernatural along the way.

Described by fans as "Dan Brown meets Lara Croft," and perfect for fans of James Rollins or Steve Berry.

Valley of Dry Bones

And…... Yet another suspenseful story. Yes, Morgan is back but very reluctantly at first because of her injuries sustained in the previous story - yet she is drawn back to Jake with her adrenaline just pumping away from the excitement to be back on the job. New Orleans, Toledo and Majorca (Spain), San Francisco, are some of the places you can visit in this book.

Wonderful travels across the globe

It starts in Guinea, Africa where people were captured to be slaves so long ago and where it is rumoured that voodoo (zombies and all) as it was known in the New World originated. Okay, enough of what I know of folklore. But it does inform the story to follow…

Again we have wonderful travels across the globe. My favourite is being in New Orleans – I just love that spooky city.

“An army of skeletons overran the last of the living.” Love this line – and it holds the essence of what Morgan and Jake have to fight in this latest adventure.

I enjoyed the tantalising bits of what had happened on previous adventures across the globe – and I seriously want to catch up on those! (I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from the author, but this review is my own honest opinion.)

The antagonist in this story has a humanising aspect to him which makes one almost root for him. Almost.

I liked the blend of history, mythology, folklore and a hint of the supernatural in this thriller.

A must-read thriller with a religious slant.
