It is the seat of judgment. The pinnacle of holiness. It is the Ark of the Covenant… and it’s the most dangerous weapon in existence.

A group of fanatics wearing masks of Egypt’s gods slaughter the curator of Cairo’s most famous museum. A cleaner in Washington, DC, discovers a decapitated head on top of a replica of the Ark of the Covenant. And someone is sharing videos of the deaths with extremists all over the world.

It’s a job too big — and too strange — for the normal authorities, but it’s right up the alley of ARKANE, the British agency tasked with investigating mysteries on the edge of the supernatural.

Normally ARKANE would send its best agents: Morgan Sierra, ex-Israeli military and professor of psychology and religion; and Jake Timber, a man as mysterious as he is dangerous.

But Jake is in a coma, nearly killed on a previous mission — so Morgan will have to go it alone. Because the death toll is rising, and there’s no time to wait.

In over her head, in constant danger. Pursued by vicious mercenaries bent on revenge, hunted by assassins willing to do anything for their cause. But Morgan can’t stop, because the Ark of the Covenant is the prize, and it may be more than a simple religious artifact.

It may be the secret to ancient alchemy, and the unlocking of a scientific breakthrough that could save the world… or end it.

A mix of Raiders of the Lost Ark, James Bond, and The Da Vinci Code, Ark of Blood is a mesmerizing adventure by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author J.F. Penn.

"A mix of history, art and science, with a touch of creative license, to present an intriguing tale that I didn’t want to put down. I have thoroughly enjoyed the series so far, and am eager to read the entire series."

"This action packed, eerie thriller takes you through dusty museums crammed with Egyptian artifacts, into the hallowed halls of Masonic Lodges where secrets silently lay and to the great Temples themselves to witness horrifyingly real ceremonies."

"The cool thing about Penn's books, she adds so much historical detail, it makes me want to look these things up for myself . . . This book was no different. Between Egypt, the Ark of the Covenant and biblical tales, mixed up in the present day politics of the region . . . it made for quite the adrenaline rush. I totally recommend these books."

"The action starts immediately. And, it never stops, which I loved ...Ark of Blood is just as well-written as the first two books in the series, with vivid descriptions of people, places, and ideas ... I’ve been left with two desires at the end of this book: one, to learn more about the Ark of the Covenant and the theories about if and where it exists, and two, to read the next book in the series! Good work, JF Penn!"

In the ARKANE thriller series ...

ARKANE agents Morgan Sierra and Jake Timber race against time to solve religious and supernatural mysteries around the world.

They're joined by other members of the ARKANE team as they search for clues and battle foes both human and supernatural along the way.

Described by fans as "Dan Brown meets Lara Croft," and perfect for fans of James Rollins or Steve Berry.

Intense

With Jake still recovering Morgan has to take on the recovery of the Ark by herself. Very intense when she has a run in with Natasha and her crew when they are trying to recover the Ark pieces also. Morgan was beaten and almost burnt to death, but she managed to survive. But when she caught up with Natasha again and she puts all the pieces together the unbelievable happens. The Ark pieces are hopefully safe now but who knows. If you enjoy intense and adventure, you will enjoy this third book in this series. Will keep you reading till the end.

Exciting thriller!

In this exciting thriller, we find Morgan Sierra practically on her own with Jake still in a coma - she is assigned a new partner, but he also gets injured leaving Morgan to fend for herself. Everywhere she turns, she is confronted by Natasha El-Behery who keeps trying to kill her. The final scene is reminiscent, a bit, of "Raiders of the Lost Ark", except here, there were only 2 people present - what a finish!

Another Great Read

Never failing to produce a story that grips and involves the reader, this is no exception. A subject that has launched many conspiracy theories and a wealth of mystical life and fables - the Ark of the Covenant. Her partner still recovering from serious injuries on their last mission, Morgan must try to prevent an ancient and powerful relic being used to spark a religious war. Her battle against a for who is both powerful and violent, Morgan seems both to stop Natasha and gain some revenge for the injuries inflicted on her partner. Thoroughly recommend this book and looking forward to the next instalment in Budapest.

Fast paced - kept me scrolling through my kindle

A great continuation for Morgan Sierra . . . The cool thing about Joanna Penn's books, she adds so much historical detail, it makes me want to look these things up for myself . . . This book was no different. Between Egypt, the Ark of the Covenant and biblical tales, mixed up in the present day politics of the region . . . it made for quite the adrenaline rush. I totally recommend these books -- I'm getting the next in the series soon . . .

Ark of Blood by J.F.Penn

Although I normally don't read this type of book, I did enjoy the story. It was fast paced, well researched and the flow of the story was very good. Readers who enjoy reading about relics, ancient history and religious mysteries, will enjoy this story -as well as the other related stories by this author, that appear to all follow the same theme. I follow Joanne, who is generous with her time and the valuable information and links she hands out freely to other writers, who are struggling for some kind of recognition. Best wishes for your new book, Joanne.

Very Good Read

This is the third installment of Ms Penn's ARKANE series and the writing just keeps getting better. Ms Penn did quite a bit of research on the various settings she uses in this novel and she did an excellent job. Once again, the heroine, Morgan Sierra, takes center stage in this installment and Natasha El-Behereys is the antagonist. Both are seeking the Ark of the Covenant. What the Ark has to do with the novel's title is explained by Ms Penn at the end of the novel. This was a very good read and while the plot is somewhat predictable, Ms Penn keeps the story moving along with some twists and turns to keep the interest up. I look forward to her next novel in this series.

GOOD AND GETTING BETTER!

With every book that J. F. Penn writes you become more addicted. I think that Penn's checkable facts added to my addiction to her books. Her characters are well drawn, the plots are exciting, and the fact that a new book is expected any day now, leaves me anxiously awaiting a book that I know I won't be able to put down. Get on the Penn bandwagon and start with book one in the ARKANE series "Stone of Fire".You'll be glad you did.

Great ride !

Before reading the third book in the ARKANE series, I went back and reread Stone of Fire ( Book 1 ) and Crypt of Bone ( Book 2 ) to familiarize myself with what I had read before. Even having read them, I found them a delight to reread, always a mark of a good story to me. Ark of Blood is the third book and continues the story in what I hope is more to come. Very enjoyable reading. I love Joanna's willingness to put in the time to research her story, combining real history with a dash of "what if", so much so that I find myself referencing my Kindle or iPad to visualize the locations and news events mentioned, giving me background beyond her book and heightening my enjoyment. Keep the books coming, Joanna !

A satisfying mix of action and detail

Having read the previous two books and enjoyed them, I can say that - for me - this is the best of the series so far. There is a fast paced plot that draws the reader in and moves relentlessly from beginning to end. I enjoy thrillers that do not simply treat place, history or mythology as mere back drop - "Ark of Blood, An ARKANE Thriller" certainly satisfied me here. There was a great sense of place that made each location come alive in my mind. It was the themes though of ancient religious traditions and mythology that draws me to give the book the 5 stars. I am a graduate in the same discipline as the author and found that her treatment of these themes was detailed and accurate in a way that lifted the book far above many action based plots novels that attempt to deal with similar ideas. I also liked the ethical complexity the reader encounters in the story, something that is continued from the previous works. There is not always a clear cut distinction between good/bad or positive/negative. Eg, is everything about the ARKANE organisation to be regarded as good? Most of the time the reader would be encouraged to say "yes" but then Ben continues to provide an alternative view but with only hints of his thinking on the matter. Then also, while the characters do divide clearly into good/bad as with all action novels they come across as quite real people who have complex histories and who make decisions that are in character and not just at the dictate of the plot. This is a great book, that is well written and researched. The author is a good story teller and I look forward to the next book in the ARKANE series.

ARKANE is back

Ark of Blood thrills as the first two books did. Morgan, without a recovering Jake, races to find the Ark of the Covenant against an old adversary to prevent a war that would destroy Isreal. History and fiction are blended together to make this ARKANE adventure. Great descriptive writing gives a great visual of the setting and action. Characters take on different roles and develope more in this book, Morgan on her own, Martin's first field action, Ben guiding and helping Morgan. The nature of religion and man are explored as in the previous ARKANE books. Another great story from Joanna. Looking forward to the next one.
