This story grips with every carefully selected word, and the twist at the end leaves you wanting more. The descriptions are really intense, heightening the final plot shock even further.

It would be great to see a "how does the story develop?" as a full blown novel now that our appetite has been whetted.

In a Demon's eye. Riveting and I hope there's more to come. Ms Penn let's yu feel the heat of the desert and the subject's frustration in wanting to be back embedded with the military. I look forward to a sequel.

I didn't want it to end and it left me wanting more. A fast paced story that still provides plenty of depth. I'd love to see this character in a full novel.

Sarah really loves what she is doing with the military. Enabling sight that sees the truth. It was quite intriguing. Short but quite and impact! I really enjoyed this story!

Intense descriptions and a great sense of place made me read this short story in one sitting.

This short story ends a bit abruptly, but what there is of it is very dramatic and chilling. A war photographer is determined to take any chance she can to bring the stories of the victims to the forefront. An IED explosion lands her in the hospital with the threat of permanent blindness, but will the experimental surgery to restore her sight end up being a blessing or a curse?

A lot is left unsaid in this story, leaving plenty of room for imagination, goading the reader into making up all kinds of scenarios, as to what exactly what type of hospital this really was.

With a Demon’s Eye is J.F. Penn’s latest short story. I believe I have read each of her short stories, not to mention books. I’ve come to rely on each of her short stories being complete stories with one or two well developed characters and plenty of action, intrigue, or suspense and a story line that not only leaves the reader satisfied but may even serve as a wonderful beginning of a new series or off-shoot of an existing series. With a Demon’s Eye did all of this and then some. I would love to follow Sara Miles on some more adventures. I received an advance reader copy of With a Demon’s Eye from the author and chose to provide this review.

This is a cracking short story with an ending I just didn’t see coming. I wonder if anything is going to come from this story in the future. Where does such a fantastic author gets their storylines from. What next, cannot wait to find out. Highly recommended.

Sara Miles, Conflict Photographer, loves her job of photographing war results in the desert due to fighting for freedom. She is severely injured on a run. At the hospital on the same day she realizes her sight is gone, she is offered an experimental procedure which offers her the chance, with no guarantees. When the many possible side effects, one of which is her death, are explained to her, she wants to take the chance as losing her ability to use a camera would be worse than death.
J.F. Penn has struck gold with this short story. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend you read it.

This is a very short read, and true to form, Penn captivates and leaves the reader craving more. I hope the story continues!

I picked the book up and you were immediately in the story. I could taste the dust, feel the uncertainty, feel the pain. I had to read the end twice—it could be open to your own interpretation—a curse, or a superpower?
Probably J.F Penn’s best short story yet. Supercharged writing.

Loved this short story by JF Penn, though that was not a shock as everything I have read by this author has grabbed me. So, this story of Sara the war photographer, was not different. The writing is cinematic and from the first words of the tale I had to know more.
" The desert shimmered in the hear as the sun beat down, punishing a land that has seen over a thousand year of suffering with no end in sight. Sara Miles stared out from the back of the Humvee, her legs cramped for sitting for hours on end." Who is this person and what are they doing in the desert, much less in a Humvee and how will this become about With a Demon's Eye? You will have to grab this one and read it to find out more....and more is what you will want at the conclusion as well. Thankfully the author has more for you to read! I was given this ARC in exchange for a review.

This is a gripping short story that as I read it, I wanted it to continue to know how Sara is going to see the world, the war from a new perspective and what transpires from it.

I loved this short story. The ending gave me a thrill to imagine all the ways the photographer could use her new sight to fight dark forces and free herself from evil. I hope the author writes a book like that because I'd love to read it.

This is a short story with a great little punch. Yes, how far would I go to retain my eyesight? It really makes me wonder.

I was not prepared for the astonishing punch of this brief masterpiece. The first two thirds took me on a beautifully crafted ride, and then - pow - an ending that left me gasping. Another author might have gone on with a whole novel, but Ms. Penn has the mastery to know when to stop. I’m very impressed, and very scared.

I got an ARC of this story. I’m a huge fan of the author so was looking forward to reading With A Demon’s Eye which sounded a bit different than her usual work. I enjoyed this story a lot, so much I sighed with disappointment when I reached the end because I wanted more. There’s a great sense of place in the story as the place where Sara is injured really comes to life and I also got good sense of her character. This is impressed in a short story. The power in this story is what is not said particularly the ‘price’ Sara pays for her sight. This is a terrific story.
